Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
May increase risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults initially Do not stop abruptly (withdrawal symptoms possible) May cause serotonin syndrome if combined with other serotonergic drugs Use caution in epilepsy and bipolar disorder
Avoid If:
MAO inhibitor use within 14 days Known allergy to escitalopram Uncontrolled bipolar disorder (mania risk)
Interactions:
MAO inhibitors: Risk of serotonin syndrome (contraindicated). NSAIDs/aspirin: Increased bleeding risk. Tramadol: Increased risk of serotonin syndrome. Other SSRIs/SNRIs: Additive serotonin toxicity. Alcohol: Increased CNS side effects (drowsiness, impairment).
