Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
May cause dizziness or fainting, especially after the first dose (“first-dose effect”) Can lead to low blood pressure when standing up (postural hypotension) May cause sleepiness or weakness Use caution when driving or standing quickly Can cause swelling (ankles/feet) in some patients
Avoid If:
You are allergic to doxazosin or other alpha-blockers You have a history of severe low blood pressure You have severe liver disease You are prone to frequent fainting or orthostatic hypotension.
Interactions:
Other blood pressure medicines → increased risk of very low BP PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil) → severe BP drop risk Diuretics (water pills) → increased dizziness or hypotension Alcohol → worsens dizziness and fainting risk Other alpha-blockers → additive BP-lowering effect
